Welcome to Wallingford, Vermont—a charming little town nestled in the Green Mountains, perfect for a weekend escape from the hustle and bustle. Whether you're looking to relax, enjoy the great outdoors, or savor some local flavors, Wallingford has something special for everyone. Here’s a friendly guide to help you make the most of your visit, featuring our cozy property, great local eats, and some must-see spots around town.

Where to Stay: The I.B. Munson House

First things first—where to stay. The I.B. Munson House is your home away from home in Wallingford. Our place is more than just a spot to crash; it’s a welcoming retreat where you can truly unwind.

What to Expect:

  • The Game Room: If you’re bringing kids (or if you’re a kid at heart), our Game Room is the perfect hangout. It doubles as a bedroom with a comfy sleep sofa, its own bathroom, and closets filled with puzzles, toys, and games. We even have an Xbox One (you’ll need to bring your own games). Plus, there’s a pack ‘n play in the closet for the little ones.

  • Cozy Comfort: Our rooms are designed for comfort, blending historic charm with modern amenities to ensure you get a great night’s sleep.

Day 1: Settle In and Start Exploring

Afternoon: After arriving at the I.B. Munson House, take some time to settle in and get comfy. Once you’re ready, head out to explore Wallingford. The town is small but full of character, so take a leisurely stroll and soak it all in.

Dinner: Kick off your evening with a delicious dinner at The Victorian Inn, just a short walk from the house. Their Swiss/Austrian-inspired menu and extensive wine list make it a local favorite. The cozy ambiance is just right for easing into your weekend.

Day 2: Adventure Awaits

Morning: Start your day right with breakfast at Sweet Birch Coffee Roasters and Bakery, conveniently located next to Sal's South. Grab a fresh coffee and some baked goodies to fuel up for the day ahead.

Mid-Morning: Lace up your hiking boots and take a short drive to White Rocks National Recreation Area. The Ice Beds Trail is a bit challenging but absolutely worth it. You’ll be treated to incredible views, and if you time it right, you’ll experience the natural air conditioning from the ice beds—a true Vermont gem.

Lunch: After your hike, head back to town and treat yourself to lunch at Mamma Tamara's. Their Philly cheesesteak is a must-try—packed with flavor and perfect for refueling after your morning adventure.

Afternoon: Spend your afternoon exploring Wallingford’s unique shops. Check out Hartsboro Pottery for some beautiful, one-of-a-kind ceramics, or swing by The Sparkle Barn if you’re in the mood for something fun and whimsical. Antique lovers won’t want to miss The Curiosity Shop in nearby Rutland.

Dinner: For dinner, keep it casual at Sal's South, just two houses down from the I.B. Munson House. It’s the perfect spot to wind down after a day of exploring, with great Italian dishes in a laid-back setting.

Day 3: Leisurely Last Day

Morning: Ease into your last day with breakfast at Main Street Cafe. Known for their hearty breakfasts and friendly vibe, it’s a great way to start your morning.

Mid-Morning: If you’re visiting during the summer, take a short walk or drive to Elfin Lake for a refreshing swim. With a sandy beach and a floating dock, it’s a lovely spot to relax and soak up some sunshine.

Lunch: Before you head out, why not treat yourself to a private dining experience at the I.B. Munson House? Our friend, Chef Ross, can whip up a delicious and healthy lunch right in the comfort of your accommodation. It’s a unique and personal way to end your stay on a high note. To set it up, just give Chef Ross a call at ‭(510) 282-0957‬.

Afternoon: As your weekend getaway comes to an end, make one last stop at the Wallingford Village Market. If it’s a Friday, be sure to pre-order a charcuterie board or grab something from the a la carte menu—perfect for the drive home. And don’t forget to pick up some fresh-baked bread and bagels from Bread by Erika. Erika’s place is just two doors down, and her baked goods are the best in town.

Want to Stay Longer?

If you’ve got some extra time, why not extend your stay? There’s plenty more to explore, from skiing at Okemo/Jackson Gore in the winter to swimming at Emerald Lake State Park in the summer. And don’t miss out on a visit to Wilson Castle or the Wonderfeet Kid’s Museum—both are fun stops that add a little extra magic to your trip.
